There is a graphic on the webpage that I'm having replaced with one that not only fits the page better but also helps position my customers eyes towards what I'm wanting them to see. The graphic it is replacing had a nifty tagline and we're still working on one for this new graphic. I imagine we'll have it done in the next few days. Once that is complete our webpage developers can optimize the website. From there we can begin our marketing campaign as the website is more relevant to what people will be clicking on when the ads pique their interest!

Greedy Greedy Blogging Entry#1

Greedy Greedy at www.highpointgames.com has been live now for just about 2 months. The limited traffic that I have going there is probably friends and family. I had my keywords like "Greedy Greedy", "Fun Card and Dice Game" in my title. This experience reminds me of a lesson I learned when I was 18 or so. I knew I wanted to have money but I never considered how I would earn money.

I really felt I had learned my lesson from that but I have apparently made a very similar mistake about this website. I knew that having one was important and what I wanted but I never thought about how to drive traffic to it. I just thought it would be ranked well and people would be buying the game left and right. Ignorance is not bliss in this case.

I have been in the process of learning all about Search engine marketing and optimization and how the two work in unison. One big mistake I made was thinking I knew what people were going to be looking for when searching for a game similar to mine. I of course had Greedy Greedy as a keyword but no marketing or promotion behind that. Who types Greedy Greedy into a search engine query expecting to find my game when no one knows about it? Zero.

My phrasing is also off along with the positioning of keywords in the title. Again no one is going to search for "Fun Card and Dice game" exactly. Greedy Greedy also should be first here. Starting a blog is highly recommended to promote and help rank a website. This is my contribution to that requirement.

One thing I have been avoiding like the plague is what I have considered to be my main competition and liability when in fact it may be a boon. Greedy Greedy is based off a game my grandmother and I used to play all the time. This game that we played is in turn very similar to the popular game of Farkle. Now at the time when I was creating Greedy Greedy I was not aware of Farkle, a game very similar, and my grandmother insisted that she and her brother and sisters made the game up. Working under this assumption I begin to create my own version of Greedy Greedy. A version that utilized cards and promoted much more player interaction than just simply tossing the dice.

After spending a mint and well over a year of testing the game to get the game balanced we launched only to discover the simialrities in the rules between Farkle and my Greedy Greedy game. I was taken aback to put it lightly. Furthermore about 3 weeks before my website went live a new webpage soared to the top of Google's search results when querying Greedy Greedy. It was for a game called Greedy Greedy and it had very similar rules too!

Needless to say my grandmother had apparently remembered things wrong when taking credit for creating the game with her brother and sisters. This new Greedy Greedy was in fact a program that a person had created on the popular 2nd Life program. While the rules were similar the game was not. My version of Greedy Greedy utilizes a deck of cards that promote interaction between people set in a real world environment while the 2nd Life version uses a program within a program to have a player's avatar participate.

I will be "optimizing" ( I have this in quotes because I'm not sure it will optimize or hurt me, I'm going to have to experiment) my website very shortly.
